Hiking

For the hiking enthusiast, Robertson offers some great hiking.

The Valley, surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains with the Breede River running through it, is hikers paradise. Blessed with natural mountain fynbos, indigenous trees, secluded gorges, numerous rock pools and waterfalls, they just begged to be explored.

So if you are a serious mountain climber, a novice day hiker or just some-one that wants to commune with nature, swim, chill-out or skinny dip. There is a spot for you.

Hiking Trails

Arrangieskop Trail ( Mariette Barnes – Ashton Tourist office - Ph 023 – 615 8038 )

A 2 day trail to the top of the Langeberg Mountains.

Spectacular views of the Robertson Valley & the Koo Valley.

Over-night in a comfortable double-story hut, built with natural stone ( One side of the wall is actually the cliff wall ). The hut has hot showers and a fire-place. Fire wood is provided. Spectacular views of the Koo Valley.

Rated for the more experienced hikers.

Dassieshoek Trail ( Mariette Barnes – Ashton Tourist office - Ph 023 – 615 8038 )

A 2 day trail at the foot hills of the Langeberg Mountains.

The hike takes you through mountain fynbos and gorges with great swimming spots.

Rated moderate.

Waterfall Hike ( Self-guide – No booking necessary )

Situated in a secluded gorge in the beautiful Dassieshoek Nature Reserve.

The rock pools are surrounded by cliffs, ferns and indigenous trees.

Perfect for some-one that wants to commune with nature, chill-out or swim.

Rated easy.

Fish Eagle Trail ( Van Loveren – Ph 023 – 615 1505 )

The trail starts on the Van Loveren Wine Estate and climbs up the "Rooikrans".

Breathtaking views of the Robertson Valley Vineyards and distant mountains.

Rated easy-moderate.

Vrolijkheid nature reserve ( Ph 023 – 625 1621 )

Offers 2 different day walks, The Heron Trail and the Rooikat Trail.

Great for the bird enthusiast.

Rated easy.

Boesmanskloof Trail ( Mc Gregor Tourist Office – Ph 023 – 625 1954 )

Between Mc Gregor and Greyton.

1 or 2 day hike.

Rated moderate.
